I'm Throwing Another Event This Month ππ«ΆπΎπ
Back in your inbox with a night of short films, a new playlist, and more things from the Internet. π¬π
Itβs definitely August. I feel like I need to type that to remind myself that we are indeed in the thick of summer. Can you believe it?π§ I hope youβve been living your best life and summer has been treating you right π. What have you been up toooo? Let me know.π₯°
Since the last time we caught up, so much has happened. Iβve graduated from school, took a little vacation, and have been in a deep reset mode π. ( You might be asking what do you mean by school? School of joy, school of life, school of adulting? The answer to those questions is yesssss and also I just graduated from school as well.π ) The last few months have been a whirlwind of stepping into a new chapter of life. Its low key been giving the movies Eat, Pray, Love and also the Sister Act 2 movie final scene.
Iβm happy and giving all the praise to God and at the same time Iβm still figuring life out π. Iβm grateful for this season of life and all thatβs been coming up within it nonetheless. I hope whatever season of life that you are in, you feel grounded and affirmed ππΎ.
As you and I continue to figure out what this season of life is, Iβm excited to be back with another event π€π. If youβre looking for an evening of short films from across the African diaspora, music, and community conversation, then pull up to Mirror Mirror: Vol 1.
Mirror Mirror is a collection of short films that reflect our stories and experiences. You can pull up on African Video Club on Friday August 18th for the vibes. Hit the RSVP below for more info.
While you get ready for the event, here is some new music, things Iβve found on the Internet, and of course some of my favorite reads.
The Void Playlist - Shout out to the music that becomes the soundtrack to our lives. These songs are very much doing that. Currently on repeat is Wil$on, Vylet Stone, Kasien, and Teni. πΆ
Everything Now: Lessons from the City-State of Los Angeles - Okay this book ate and left no crumbβs. I feel like I owe my family an apology with the way I kept reading quotes to them from this book. (It was getting out of hand, but itβs that good). If you are from LA, living in LA, or just curious about the city, this is required reading.
Joey Bada$$ - Fallinβ : As I mentioned, we are sliding into a new chapter and era and so is Joey Bada$$. Itβs the new vibes from him for meeeeee.
Museums: Thereβs so many fire art exhibits that have been popping up in the city and Iβm determined to find them all. If youβre looking for a museum to check out 10/10 recommend Hauser & Wirth in Downtown Los Angeles. The Thomas J Price βBeyond Measureβ and βAmerican Gurlβ exhibits still have me shook.
Aya of Yop City: As you can tell, Iβve been reading reading. This book also has been one of my favorite reads. Tap in with it for something new. π
Swagger - Wow. I canβt believe I almost didnβt mention the TV show that has consumed my life over the last two weeks. If thereβs anything you take from here today, please let it be this show. The storyline, the cinematography, and the acting have me in tears each episode. Itβs that good π π
The Afrobeats Countdown - If you missed the last episode of The Afrobeats Countdown, you can watch it here π€
As always, I hope you can pull up to the event, tap in with the books, links, TV shows, listen to some new music, and let me know how youβre doing. Iβll be back to catch up with you sooner than later.π
XOXO
