How Did We Get Here? π
I'm back in your inbox with another film screening event, new playlist, and things I've found on the Internet π
How did we get here? π§ I keep asking myself that as I look at my calendar and see how we are officially in May π. Instead of asking that question, I almost feel like I should instead be saying Happy New Year! π« Did you feel the energy behind that? Let me try again. *Clears throat and breathes in from the diaphragm* HAPPY NEW YEAR! π I hope you felt that one. While I do realize this new year message is coming in 5 months late, just know I havenβt forgotten about you. I hope the first few months of the year have been kind to you and full of good affirmations of what the rest of the year still can be. β€οΈπ€
Since our time apart, I was able to travel to both Senegal and Nigeria. In the city of Dakar, I constantly felt inspired as my days began with watching the sun rise over the Atlantic Ocean and ended with the most beautiful sunsets. I constantly thought about what it meant to be so far away from what Iβve considered home, and yet feel so connected to a new city Iβve never been. Dakar and Lagos both showed me how important it is to find places, people, and things that make your spirt feel at home.
Since being back in the states, Iβm continuing to find those same things in my city. Iβll update you on what I find, but in the meantime hereβs where Iβve been and what Iβve been partaking in while in The Void.
Coachella 2024 - DJing at Coachella this year felt like a true dream π¬β€οΈ. Iβm still crying at how good of a time it was. The energy of the GV Black x Party In My Living Room activation was one that I will always remember.
African Video Club - Next Friday, African Video Club is back with another movie night. I hope you can join us for a special night of films, conversations, music, and good vibesssss.π«ΆπΎπ₯
The Void Playlist - I continue to feel so inspired by all the new music that has been dropping. β¨ There just seems to be an endless amount of new music coming in right now and Iβm just here to accept it all. πΆ
My Name Is A Mountain - I love a good article and this was definitely one of them. This is such a beautiful read on names, identity, and belonging.
Sonya Spence - Let the love Flow: The title of this song just so happens to be the affirmation I want to live by in 2024. I want to let love flow in all things that I do. From making breakfast to my nighttime routine. I want to let love flow even in the mundanest of things and see the miracle of life , which I consider to be love, in even the most basic routines. This song just so happens to be the backdrop of it all. (If you know of anyone who has this on CD or Vinyl please send them my way ππΎπ)
A Broken Peopleβs Playlist: How is it possible for a book to make you cry in the fist 15 pages?π This is a question that needs an answer. Iβm still in the midst of reading this book, but this book has made me excited to get back to reading again.
Blue Eye Samurai - Netflix did their big one with this. I enjoyed and binged this in 2 business days.
Art Galleries - Iβve been exploring more art galleries and art shows in LA. If you need some recommendations, hereβs a favorite of recent. (Side note, if you want to be apart of African Video Clubβs upcoming art exhibition, submissions are open now π€)
How to Step Into Your Power and Align Yourself with Purpose - Iβm still recovering from this conversation π. The first 10 minutes really got me. Itβs such a necessary listen.
The Flynn Skidmore Podcast - I listened to one episode of this podcast and have been diving further into past episodes ever since. This podcast actually has so many gems.
I hope you enjoy everything shared and of course the latest playlist.π«ΆπΎ Iβm so grateful for this space and you being apart of it. Thank you for being here in The Void. Sending you all the love and good vibes as we start a new month. β€οΈ
